Mormons and ERA goals

نيا

What a sad headline, "ERA backer is expelled by Mormons," simply because Sonia Johnson félt strongly enough about the equal rights amendment to freely speak out.

The ERA amendment will affirm the nation's promise of equal rights for all before the law. That is all it will do.

The ERA will not break up families.

The ERA will not force anyone to earn or to learn.

The ERA will not force states to OK homosexual marriages.

The ERA will not interfere in people's private lives.

It simply states:

"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." So you see, it is good for both men and women.

I am thankful to be a member of a church, the United Church of Christ, which backs the ERA amendment along with other churches and the American Baptist Women, American Jewish Congress, B'nai B'rith Women, Church Women United, Lutheran Church Women, National Catholic Coalition for ERA, National Council of Churches, Presbyterian Church in the U.S., United Methodist Church and the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.

Seems to me the Mormon church is out of step with the issue of the day" and is suppressing its

women.

MADGE M. FREDERICK Brecksville

Hurray for the Mormons!

At last a major denomination has taken a stand against ERA.

Why are the pulpits silent as the vociferous few cram this unnecessary legislation down the throats of the American public?
